07 Jan The Century of the Brain
As the New Year begins, we are reminded that opportunity and potential await. Scientists have named this the Century of the Brain – predicting significant progress across the neuroscience continuum. Technology offers new hope. In the last 100 years we have explored space, solved the genome code, created the super computer and distributed cell phones to over 75 percent of the world’s population.
Despite recent innovation, the 1.4 kilogram organ that is the center of all conscious human activity remains an enigma. Solutions for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s have proven elusive in the face of significant advances in the field. Current treatments focus on managing the symptoms of neurological conditions, not the cause.
We know the need is great. One in three people in the United States will experience a neurological disease or deficit in their lifetime which collectively costs over $800 billion per year. Within the next 40 years this epidemic will affect one in two people worldwide, costing more than one trillion dollars per year.
We have a history of success. Our Founder, Dr. Christopher B. Shields has introduced ground-breaking therapies and technologies with the potential to reduce the burden of neurological deficits. As the Founder of the Kentucky Spinal Injury Research Center and the strategic architect of the Frazier Rehab Institute in Louisville, KY, Dr. Shields has proven that his bench-to-bedside translational research delivers innovative clinical care that matters. His approach, the Halo Effect™, is a proprietary synergistic research process that accelerates cures. Dr. Shields and his international multidisciplinary research team of M.D.s and Ph.D.s. are global pioneers in pursuing this promising approach.
We can do more together. As a professional who has spent the last decade launching, managing and funding novel neurological technologies, I find our research both exciting and encouraging. Join us. Together we can transform patient’s lives today and create a Halo Effect™ for cures tomorrow.
Sincerely Yours in Progress,
Teresa M. Leezer, CEO,
